Check out below some of the details about each of our Open Water Diving spots:

Ammoudi shore reef

Minimum certification level:
Try Scuba Diver (TSD)

Maximum depth:
18 meters

Average visibility:
25+ meters

Group size:
Maximum of 8 divers.

Features:
Accessible by car and boat. Anchoring at 5 meters.

Comments:
This diving destination is one for all the family. Beach lovers amongst them can enjoy the glorious sand and sea whilst those who want to explore beneath the sea can try out our TSD level dive. Dive training can also be done in the confined water for beginners. Experienced divers can take a short surface swim to get closer to the reef, waiting to be explored. One highlight not to be missed is the dive through the natural chimney, where often the sea’s current will move you through the rock formations, and the camouflaged octopus is worth looking out for.

Cave Dive

Minimum certification level:
Advanced Open Water level

Other requirements:
pre-dive necessary

Maximum depth:
18.6 meters

Group size:
Maximum of 3 divers.

Features:
only accessible by boat, anchoring at 13 meters

Comments:
The cave is accessed through a tight entrance via a halocline effect. The crystal-clear sweet water of the cave is drinking water quality, having travelled from the white mountains of Crete, and also some 10 degrees colder than the seawater outside. Large stalagmites and stalactites greet you and you need to take care not to disturb sand on the cave floor. The silence and cold of the cave is unforgettable.

Illigas

Minimum certification level:
Open Water level

Maximum depth:
25 meters

Average visibility:
25 meters

Group size:
maximum of 4 divers.

Features:
Only accessible by boat. Anchoring at 3 meters.

Comments:
Experienced or not, this is a dive that will not let you down! Starting from shallow waters, you will have a live experience of the halocline and thermocline effect from an underwater spring! Between 14-25 meters we will play with the fish and explore the holes of the reef until we hit the amazing wall, full of colourful formations. Our dive will finish with a swim through the rocks!

Mavromalli wall

Minimum certification level:
experienced open water level

Maximum depth:
28 meters

Average visibility:
30+ meters

Group size:
Maximum of 6 divers.

Features:
Only accessible by boat. Anchoring at 20 meters.

Comments:
For unusual diving sensations this dive is hard to beat. It offers deep water to dive in but is more interesting for the shallow waters where at many points sweet water springs emerge from the wall. This water has travelled all the way from Crete’s white mountains, flowing into the Libyan sea. Here it combines with the salty seawater to create an exotic mixture and a halocline effect. Enjoy the sensation of cold sweet water and salt water with their warm and cold streams. Next to the high-pressure sources you can often find slugs or snails. The PH of the water caused by this unusual water combination, attracts many parrotfish, which clean the rocks. Known for their stunning large eyes, these fish are popular with underwater photographers keen to capture their strange beauty.

Port/House Reef

Minimum certification level:
Try Scuba Diver (TSD)

Maximum depth:
25 meters

Average visibility:
30+ meters

Group size:
Maximum of 5 divers.

Features:
Accessible on foot.

Comments:
If you’re on a budget we have a perfect dive for you, right on the doorstep of the dive centre – so no boat or car transfer is necessary. Follow a path we have created in the rocks behind the diving center to reach the sea easily on foot. The spot offers three different dives, with a variety of rock and sandy ground coupled with exceptionally transparent water conditions. To the south on the first dive option you reach the Ovelix Rock (a very big stand-alone rock) usually home to grouper. The second dive option lets you go out rapidly to a depth of over 30 meters. The third option allows you to dive along the coast to the west to experience rocky ground alive with small fish swarms. Those not wanting to dive always have the option of snorkeling in this area of the sea.

Pigados Cliff

Minimum certification level:
Experienced or Advanced Open Water level

Maximum depth:
20-30 meters

Average visibility:
40 meters

Group size:
maximum of 4 divers.

Features:
Only accessible by boat. Anchoring at 12 meters.

Comments:
Pigados is the Greek word for a well and this dive takes you into a huge hole, which starts at 23 meters and hits the sea floor at 76 meters. The dive starts with a specific briefing and body check before we enter the sea. The whole group dives along rocks until we reach the hole and then step into it. The feeling you will get will be like standing on a very tall bridge for a bungee jump, peering into the deep blue. To stay safe we dive down no further than 30 meters, exploring the many nooks and crannies with their interesting Mediterranean inhabitants. Large swarms of Sheepshead bream and groupers are a common siting.

Timios Stavros

Minimum certification level:
Experienced Open Water level

Maximum depth:
38 meters

Average visibility:
30+ meters

Group size:
Maximum of 4 divers.

Features:
Only accessible by boat. Anchoring at 3 meters.

Comments:
This half reef starts from the shore very close to Loutro under the church of Timios Stavros. Here we anchor in its small bay and after a briefing we start our dive from shallow water. We can go deeper if we chose, depending on the experience of those on the dive. A very special dive, this one gives you the feeling of floating above a sunken island with many huge rocks and little caves you can dive into and explore. In the deepest part of this dive at around 38 meters you are likely to meet hunting sea life such as barracudas and large red snappers, in the sand. Remember to bring a torch with you so you can peer into the little crevices and holes, where you will be surprised by what you see. Bear crabs and lobsters are common sights on this dive.

Sweet Water Beach

Minimum certification level:
Open Water level (divers staying in the shallow part of the reef) or Advanced Open Water level (divers wanting to go down 30 meters)

Maximum depth:
3 meters to 30 meters, depending on certification held

Average visibility:
up to 40 meters

Group size:
2-4 divers

Features:
only accessible by boat, anchoring at 3 meters, sometimes there is a small current

Comments:
The reef starts about half a nautical mile from the Sweet Water beach. Open water divers can explore the shallow part of the reef, which is teeming with small Mediterranean fishes, darting through discarded pottery on the sea floor. Advanced open water divers wanting to view the grouper drop-offs can dive to 30 meters, where curious giant grouper fish will greet them. When there are around 100 bars in the tank we start our way back up to the shallow part of the reef for decompression. As we rise up and near the top of the reef you can enjoy the sea life you will attract. Watch them swim in and out of the small holes they play through in the reef before returning to the surface.
